Bel Canto are looking way back in time on their fifth album and strikes with music close to synthesizer-pop. "Rush" is less spheric and etherical than we are used to hear them. Instead of floating into the totally ambient, Anneli Drecker og Nils Johansen have gone back to music that is very related to what they did ten years ago - then they were ahead of their time. Now they are more "in time" and are perhaps not so exciting. But then "Rush" has a simple and charming spontanity that makes some of the songs go right into your ear. Several of the songs are modern dancepop where some techno-influences are heard., but the melodies are so strong that the assosiations goes just as much in the direction of soul. Bel Canto are no longer spear-heading the development of norwegian rock - but "Rush" is great in its seemingly simpleness.
